Welcome to Careerday ("we", "our", or "us"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit careerday.com, use the Careerday apps (web, iOS, Android, and browser extensions), or otherwise interact with our services (collectively, the "Services").
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the practices described below. If you do not agree with any part of this Policy, please do not use the Services.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we collect the following categories of personal data:
- Account Information: Name, email address, password, authentication provider (Google, Microsoft, Apple), and subscription tier.
- Profile & Job-Related Information: Resume, work history, education, skills, certifications, desired salary, location preferences you add, job applications, uploaded documents, mock-interview recordings, and any other information you choose to include in your Careerday profile.
- Payment & Subscription Data: Billing name, billing address, last four digits of your payment card, subscription identifiers, renewal status, and transaction history handled by our payment partners. We do not store full payment card numbers.
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the Services (e.g., pages visited, searches, clicks, preferences, and diagnostic events).
- Device & Technical Data: IP address, device type, operating system, browser, app version, and language, as well as approximate location only if you choose to share it (for example, in your profile or via device/location settings).
- Cookies & Similar Technologies: Cookie identifiers, analytics pixels, and local storage objects used to remember preferences and measure engagement. See Section 5 for details.
- Communication Data: Support requests, feedback, survey responses, in-app chat messages, and email correspondence.
- Third-Party Data: Information you decide to import from external sources (for example, another résumé service or social profile).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use personal data for the following purposes and legal bases (EU/UK GDPR Art. 6 shown in parentheses):
- To create and maintain your account, provide the Services, and match you with relevant jobs and career resources (performance of a contract).
- To process payments, manage subscriptions, and provide customer support (performance of a contract).
- To personalise content, recommendations, and communications (legitimate interest / consent).
- To analyse usage patterns, improve functionality, develop new features, and conduct research (legitimate interest).
- To detect, prevent, and mitigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents (legitimate interest / legal obligation).
- To send marketing emails, product announcements, and surveys (consent / legitimate interest). You can opt out at any time.
- To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and accounting or tax obligations (legal obligation).
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only as described below:
- Employers & Recruiters (coming soon): When this feature launches, you will be able to apply to jobs or explicitly share your profile. We will then provide only the information necessary to process your application.
- Service Providers: Trusted cloud hosting, analytics, communication, AI, and payment partners who process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality and security obligations.
- Legal & Compliance: Government authorities, courts, or external advisors when required to comply with a legal obligation or protect rights.
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. You will be notified of any such change.
- With Your Consent: Any other disclosure you explicitly authorise.
5. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
We use cookies, SDKs, and pixels to remember preferences, measure campaign effectiveness, and analyse traffic. You can manage cookies in your browser settings or opt out of certain analytics via our Cookie Preferences link in the footer.
6. International Data Transfers
We are headquartered in the United States. When we transfer personal data from the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, or the United Kingdom to the U.S. or other countries, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and other lawful transfer mechanisms.
7. Data Security
We implement technical and organisational measures such as encryption in transit, least-privilege access controls, and continuous monitoring. Despite our efforts, no system is 100% secure.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. We may also retain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When data is no longer required, we securely delete or anonymise it.
9. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- Opt out of marketing communications.

10. California & Other U.S. State Privacy Rights
If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Virginia, or other states with similar laws, you may have additional rights to know, delete, or opt out of certain data “selling” or “sharing” for targeted advertising. We honour these rights and do not discriminate for exercising them. Please use the Do Not Sell/Share My Info link or email privacy@careerday.com.
11. Children’s Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have done so inadvertently, please contact us and we will delete the information.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version and change the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we will notify you via email or in-app notice.
